The Commercial Litigation Practice Group

Litigation is part of the firm's core competency and is one of the largest practice groups in the firm. The litigation group principally represents financial services companies in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia. The litigation group frequently defends Federal and State court actions involving claims for breach of contract, violations of ERISA, insurance coverage, bad faith, RICO, and class certification. The litigation group regularly represents insurers in life, health, disability, long term care and annuity matters. The litigation group also provides representation in regulatory and administrative proceedings, as well as in arbitration matters, including FINRA and AAA arbitration.

The litigation group is actively engaged in both trial and appellate proceedings. Indeed, the litigation group often is called upon to file amicus briefs on behalf of financial services companies. Sample briefs are available in the brief bank.

The litigation group also leads the firm's pro bono program through participation in the American Bar Association's Death Penalty Project. The litigation group currently represents a prisoner on death row in Delaware.
