New Mandate Requires Local Debt Policies by September 1

With the economy garnering so much attention this spring, the State of Maryland intends to more closely oversee local government finances. Governor O'Malley signed Chapter 693; Acts of 2009 into law on May 11, 2009, requiring all local governments to adopt a "local debt policy" and file it with the State Treasurer.

Insurance Commissioner Rules Insured Lacks Standing to Request Hearing

The Commissioner granted our client's motion to dismiss a complaint by two people who were not trustees of a trust that owned a life insurance policy. The MIA had found for the insurer regarding the processing of the surrender of the policy. Bryan D. Bolton represented the insurer in this matter.
